Matt Busick

Matt has been helping people grow, protect, and pass on their wealth for 30 years. Driven by his passion for ensuring clients achieve financial independence, which he believes leads to happiness, Matt founded and managed River Glen Wealth Counselors (RGWC) in 2008, offering comprehensive financial planning services nationwide. The firm specialized in serving corporate executives, helping with compensation plans, and managing concentrated stock positions. In 2023, he merged RGWC with Mercer Advisors.

Before RGWC, Matt was a registered representative with firms like American Express Financial Advisors, Inc., where he earned the President’s Recognition for Quality Advice for 10 consecutive years. Matt holds a Bachelor of Science in human development and social policy from Northwestern University and an MBA from the University of Iowa. He values the lessons learned in discipline from his time in the U.S. Marine Corps, goal setting and initiative from being a triathlete, risk assessment and mitigation from his journey with tetraplegia, and humility from being a spouse and father.

Inspired by the fear and embarrassment he felt as a child due to his parents’ financial struggles, Matt aimed to create a different environment for his family and as many other families as possible. Matt serves as a director on the boards of The Rotary Club of Des Moines and The Rotary Club of Des Moines Foundation.

Both natives of Northeastern Iowa, Matt and his wife live in Des Moines with their two children. Matt speaks conversational Danish.
