Question

Does Mercer Advisors have physical custody of my assets?

Answer

No — and that separation is a structural safeguard, not a formality. Client assets are held at independent, qualified custodians such as Schwab, Fidelity, and other institutions, which produce their own statements and are responsible for the safekeeping of assets. Mercer Advisors is authorized to advise on and, where clients grant discretionary authority, trade within those accounts, but it does not hold client assets directly. This separation between the advisor and the custodian is one of the most important protections in the industry — clients receive independent verification of their holdings from a party with no incentive to misrepresent them. When evaluating any advisor, always confirm where assets are custodied and that independent statements are provided.
