Question

Which structure fits my giving: a DAF, a foundation, or an LLC?

Answer

For many donors, a donor-advised fund (DAF) is the best starting point. It offers an immediate tax deduction, accepts appreciated assets without capital gains tax, costs less than a private foundation, and lets you grant on your own timeline. A foundation or LLC fits better when you want to grant to individuals, employ staff, or combine giving with advocacy and impact investing.
